2023年8月13日至19日，福建海洋可持续发展研究院（闽海院）院长薛雄志教授携团队赴马来西亚，开展项目合作和交流活动。
闽海院与马来西亚登嘉楼大学海洋与环境研究院合作开展马来西亚海洋空间规划合作研究项目（下称：项目），旨在为瓜拉登嘉楼市相关海域编制海洋空间规划，为当地的海洋与海岸带可持续发展提供技术支持，并致力于将该区域建设成为马来西亚海洋空间规划示范点。
在今年年初的第一次实地踏勘及6月份瓜拉登嘉楼市30人团队至厦门进行高端培训的基础上，薛雄志教授团队此行旨在对项目成果进行确认与巩固，以进一步落实海洋空间规划方案在当地的落地实施。因此，团队首先拜访了瓜拉登嘉楼市政厅，与瓜拉登嘉楼政府部门、登嘉楼大学及项目利益相关方代表进行了座谈。瓜拉登嘉楼市长Rosli先生、市政厅秘书长Mohd Sukeri先生、法务主任Wan先生、城镇规划局长Eddy先生、建筑管理局长Shawal先生等当地政府代表接待了薛雄志教授一行；登嘉楼大学海洋与环境研究院院长Fadzil教授、副院长Effi博士、海洋管理中心负责人Wan教授、登嘉楼大学商业经济与社会发展学院副院长Nazli博士等合作单位代表一同出席了交流活动。各方就项目进展及未来工作计划进行了深入的讨论与交流。瓜拉登嘉楼市长Rosli先生高度肯定了该项目对当地发展的意义，表达了对该项目的支持及将海洋空间规划推广到更广海域的期望。之后，薛雄志教授一行与登嘉楼大学合作团队共同对项目的具体实施区域进行了补充踏勘。

为全面铺开在马来西亚当地的合作网络，结束对登嘉楼的访问之后，薛雄志教授一行至马来西亚沙巴大学婆罗海洋研究院进行学术交流。婆罗海洋研究院院长Sitti Raehanah博士、副院长Zarinah博士及相关教师接待了此次访问。厦门大学校友、婆罗海洋研究院高级讲师Hairul博士对婆罗海洋研究院进行了详细介绍，薛雄志教授也全面展示了厦门大学整体情况、闽海院的研究范围及在海岸带可持续发展领域所做的相关工作等。双方就科研合作、人才培养等领域进行深入交流，并表达了未来双方更多互动与交流的意向。

Visit to the Borneo Marine Research Institute (BMRI) of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS)
薛雄志教授团队此行对马来西亚的访问，有效拓展了闽海院与马来西亚瓜拉登嘉楼市政府、登嘉楼大学及沙巴大学的交流与合作，加速了相关国际合作项目的开展。
On August 13 to August 19, a team led by Dean of FISO Prof. Xue Xiongzhi visited Kuala Terengganu City Council (MBKT) and Universiti Malaysia Sabah respectively for academic exchange and joint research project.
FISO and the Institute of Oceanography and Marine Science (INOS), Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) have developed the Joint Study on Marine Spatial Planning in Malaysia (MMSP project), which intends to develop a marine spatial planning program for dedicated sea areas in Terengganu to provide technical support for sustainable ocean and coastal development in the area. The MSP sites in Terengganu are expected to serve as demonstration sites for MSP scaling up in Malaysia. The local governments and agencies are very supportive for the MMSP project. Therefore, the first stop of this trip is Kuala Terengganu City Council (MBKT), the team had an indepth discussion with MBKT, UMT as well as other stakeholoders on the Project. Mr. Rosli, Mayor of MBKT, Mr. Mohd, Secretary of MBKT, Mr. Wan, Legal Director, Mr. Eddy, Town Planning Director, Mr. Shawal, Building Control Director etc. hosted the team; Prof. Fadzil, Director of INOS, Dr. Effi, Deputy Director of INOS, Prof. Wan, Head of Center of Ocean Governance, INOS, as well as Dr. Nazli, Deputy Dean of Faculty of Business, Economy and Social Development of UMT have also participated in the discussion. The two sides exchanged the progress of the Project and discussed the working plans for the next step. Mr. Rosli acknowledged the importance of the Project for Kuala Terengganu and expected that with joint efforts, MSP could be scaled up to broader coastal areas in Terengganu. After the discussion in MBKT, the team then had a field survey at the Marine Park as well as the turtle conservation areas in Redang Islands, which provided straightforward information on key marine resources conservation in Terengganu.
The second stop of the visit is Borneo Marine Research Institute (BMRI) of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS). Dr. Sitte Raehanah, Director, Dr. Zarinah, Deputy Director and several other faculty members of Borneo Marine Research Institute hosted the visit. Dr. Hairul, also an alumna of XMU, made an introduction of BMRI and its main research areas, while Prof. Xue also introduced FISO and its research strengths as well as the work we do. The two sides had an extensive exchange on possible academic cooperation, capacity building etc., and explored the interests for more communication and exchange in the future.
The visit has facilitated the exchange and cooperation between FISO and MBKT, UMT and UMS, and will further promote the development and implement of the MMSP Project.
