I. Introduction

The Sustainable Coastal Development Scholarship (SCD Scholarship) initiated by Xiamen University (XMU) awards full-ride scholarship to applicants from ASEAN countries to pursue a master/doctoral degree in ocean-related programs at XMU. The SCD Scholarship, sponsored by Capacity Building Program for Sustainable Coastal Development (SCD Program), intends to remove financial barriers for those who are interested in devoting to the research and practice on sustainable ocean and coastal development or enhancing their capacity in marine governance.

II. Eligibility

1. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens from ASEAN countries, and in good health physically and mentally.

2. Educational background and age limits (as of September 1, 2024):

Master’s programs: Holders of Bachelor’s degree or above and under the age of 40;

Doctoral programs: Holders of Master’s degree or above and under the age of 45.

III. Academic Programs

Marine related postgraduate degree programs, which include:

1. Chinese-medium postgraduate degree programs

2. English-medium postgraduate degree programs

IV. Duration of Scholarship

1. Master's programs: 2 years;

2. Doctoral programs: 4 years.

V. Scholarship Quota

3 for doctoral programs and 6 for master programs in 2024 (to be confirmed)

VI. Scholarship Coverage

1. Tuition fee;

2. On-campus accommodation fee;

3. Living allowance (RMB 3,000/month for master's programs; RMB 3,500/month for doctoral programs);

4. Comprehensive medical insurance.

Note: Other expenses that occur during your study in China, such as international travel expenses, cost of physical examination, security deposit and utility costs for on-campus accommodation, and cost of course materials, should be borne by the scholarship awardees themselves.

VII. Application Timeline: December 1, 2023 to April 10, 2024.

VIII. Application Procedures

Application for the SCD Scholarship will be considered only after the applicant has been admitted to Xiamen University.

Applicants shall complete online application at http://application.xmu.edu.cn and send the completed application form and SCD Scholarship Application Form to yely@xmu.edu.cn via emails. There is no need to mail paper application materials.

Note:

1. Applicants are expected to submit a complete set of application materials and will be held responsible for the authenticity of their documents. Incomplete or forged application materials will be rejected.

2. Applicants are expected to keep their phones on, check their email and online application account regularly as XMU's Admissions Office will contact them when necessary.

IX. Selection and Notification

The SCD program will conduct a comprehensive review on applicant's professional background, academic record, work experience, language proficiency, overall merits, research achievements and their prospective supervisor's comments and determine the final list of the SCD Scholarship awardees.

一、奖学金简介

厦门大学海岸带可持续发展奖学金由中国-东盟海岸带可持续发展能力建设项目资助，旨在支持东盟国家有志于从事海洋与海岸带可持续发展领域科学研究与管理工作的优秀学生至厦门大学攻读海洋及相关专业的硕士或博士学位。

二、申请人资格

1. 申请人须为东盟成员国非中国籍公民，身体健康；

2. 申请人的学历和年龄要求（截止每年9月1日前）；

（1）硕士生：本科及以上学历，年龄不超过40周岁；

（2）博士生：硕士及以上学历，年龄不超过45周岁。

三、招生专业

厦门大学海洋相关硕士、博士专业，具体包括：

1. 中文授课硕、博专业

2. 英文授课硕、博专业

四、奖学金期限

1. 硕士生：学制2学年，奖学金期限2学年；

2. 博士生：学制4学年，奖学金期限4学年。

五、奖学金名额

暂定博士研究生3名，硕士研究生6名。

六、奖学金内容

1. 学费；

2. 校内住宿费；

3. 生活费（硕士生3000元人民币/月；博士生3500元人民币元/月)；

4. 综合医疗保险费。

注：奖学金获得者需自行承担来华留学产生的其他费用，如往返国际旅费、体检费、校内住宿押金和水电费、教材费等。

“厦门大学海岸带可持续发展奖学金”申请者必须在申请我校海洋相关硕士或博士专业并被我校录取后，才具备参与奖学金评选的资格。
